This is our third annual Art of Baseball Night at Bethesda Big Train and MAA is being honored as the Big Train Community Hero at the second game of their doubleheader on June 27th!
This event is expanded this year beyond a Plein Air event to welcome all MAA members. We have 50 free tickets available and will expand that if more register.
You have the option to register to paint as a Plein Air artist (and then sell your artwork at the game on July 11), or to picnic and enjoy one or both games as a spectator. It's a wonderful way to join other members and their guests in celebrating MAA's recognition as a Community Hero for making important contributions to the arts community in the DC metro area.
As a Plein air artist, you are invited to capture the essence of local summer collegiate baseball. Artists may use any medium desired to artistically embody the energy and setting of this Bethesda Big Train Baseball team and stadium as they take on the DC Grays.
Date: Saturday, June 27, 2026.
Place: Shirley Povich Field, 10600 Westlake Dr, Rockville, MD 20852
Time: Artists can arrive any time after 3 pm. First Game begins at 4 pm. Second Game begins at 7 pm. Ceremonial First Pitch before Second Game.
Cost: Free admission for first 50 registrants (including one guest). This also includes a food voucher. Additional guests will pay for admission. A waiting list will be taken for more than 50 registrants.
Plein Air Details will be provided to MAA members who select this option in the registration.
Facilities: There are bathrooms, concession stands, and food trucks at Povich Field for your use.
Getting there: Shirley Povich Field is located inside the Cabin John Regional Park, adjacent to the Cabin John Ice Skate Rink.
Parking: Parking at Shirley Povich Field is free and available just outside the ballpark. Fans assume the risk of their car being hit by a foul ball and will see signs in the parking lot that reaffirm this assumption of risk.
