Plein Air: Springtime at Strathmore Mansion!

Springtime is the perfect time to paint outside on the beautiful grounds of the historic Strathmore Mansion! We'll paint there on Friday, April 3, from noon until 3 pm. You can paint colorful blooming Spring flowers and shrubs, the exterior of the historic mansion built in the late 1800s, statues, a gazebo, the vista from the hilltop, and more!

We will meet on the front steps of the Mansion at noon on Friday, April 3.

Cost: Free 

Number of registrants: Up to 20 members and guests (Members may bring 1 guest.)

What to expect: After checking in, we will paint at our chosen spots on the Strathmore grounds until 2:30 pm. After painting, we will gather for an informal critique and group photograph on the front steps of the Mansion. We will plan to complete our activities by 3:00 pm. Strathmore needs to begin setting up for a wedding around 3:30 pm. and has asked us to wrap up activities by 3:00 pm. Restrooms are located in the Mansion on the first floor.

Indoors at the Mansion, you can also check out the wonderful 34th Annual Strathmore Juried Exhibition: STEEPED!

What to bring: Paints, substrate, easel, stool, water, sunscreen and a hat.

Getting there: This location is accessible by car or Metro. By car, put Strathmore Mansion, 10701 Rockville Pike, Rockville (or North Bethesda) into your GPS and follow the directions to the Mansion. Specific directions can also be found on Strathmore Mansion's website (make sure to follow directions for the Mansion, not the Music Center):  https://www.strathmore.org/your-visit/directions-parking/.

By Metro, take the Red line to Grosvenor. Then, take the elevator or the stairs in the Metro parking garage to the 4th floor, walk across the Sky Bridge to the Music Center and then walk a short distance to the Mansion.

Parking: Free parking should be available in the Mansion's parking lot immediately next to the Mansion. After turning into the entrance for the Mansion, the Mansion will be on your right. Continue a short distance passing the staff parking lot and you will see free visitor parking on your right. If the lot is full, exit the Mansion, take a right and then make an immediate U turn onto Rockville Pike, Take your first left onto Tuckerman Lane and follow the signs for parking at the Grosvenor Metro parking garage. Cost at the Metro garage is $5.20 and payment by credit card is required to exit.
