Registration Opens on January 24, 2026
The Montgomery Art Association invites members and guests to a spring cultural excursion to the Baltimore Museum of Art, one of the nation’s leading institutions for modern and contemporary art. Thoughtfully scheduled to allow focused viewing before lunch, the visit features two major exhibitions on view in spring 2026.
The centerpiece of the visit is Amy Sherald: American Sublime, a landmark retrospective presenting approximately forty works by one of today’s most influential American painters. Widely recognized for her official portrait of Former First Lady Michelle Obama, unveiled at the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery, Sherald is celebrated for portraits that employ distinctive grayscale skin tones, vivid color, and quiet psychological depth to offer a powerful reimagining of American identity and representation.
For those who wish to extend their visit, an optional, separately ticketed viewing of Matisse-related exhibitions drawn from the Baltimore Museum of Art’s world-renowned holdings will be available. The BMA houses the largest public collection of works by Henri Matisse, offering an exceptional opportunity to explore the artist’s enduring influence through selected galleries and thematic presentations.
