MAA and AMP by Strathmore are teaming up again to host sketch nights at the North Bethesda music club.
Socialize with a small group of fellow artists over drinks and complimentary appetizers before a live performance by noted vocalist Christie Dashiell. MAA will have reserved tables, where we will sit and sketch the show together. When we hosted these events in 2019, the performers met us afterwards to check out our art, which was really exciting. We hope for that again.
We have two sessions lined up for this fall – the show on September 28 and another in early November (details to come).
About the performer: Known for her improvisational skills and rich tone, vocalist and composer Christie Dashiell effortlessly combines the genres of jazz, R&B, gospel, and soul. She has collaborated with esteemed artists such as Sweet Honey in the Rock and performed on notable stages worldwide. In 2016, Dashiell’s first solo album, Time All Mine, debuted on Billboard's Jazz Album and Contemporary Jazz Album charts at No. 13 and No. 22 respectively. A Strathmore Artist in Residence alum, Dashiell currently serves on the faculty of Temple University, Howard University, and The University of the District of Columbia.
Cost: AMP by Strathmore is generously offering MAA members, local artists, and their guests reduced-priced, $20 tickets ($10 off the regular price). Tickets are nonrefundable.
Buying tickets: Buy your ticket directly on the AMP website. In the promo code box, type SKETCH to get the reduced rate of $20. In the “seating levels” section, select “table seating.”

What to expect: The venue opens at 6:30 pm. MAA will host a social hour for participants from 7-8 pm and provide complimentary shared appetizers at our tables. The venue has a full bar where you can purchase cocktails, beer, wine, soda, etc. The show itself starts at 8 pm. Our tables will be lit with tealights so that you can see your work. What to bring: Sketching materials (such as small sketchbooks, pencils/pens, travel-sized watercolor kit). Keep your materials simple--there isn't a lot of space to spread out.
Address/parking: AMP by Strathmore is in the Pike & Rose shopping area at 11810 Grand Park Ave. in North Bethesda. Directions & parking info. (For first-timers, an important note: This is a wholly different venue from the main Music Center at Strathmore.)
