MAA has been invited to participate in a collaborative community art project called "Under One Roof." We are looking for 3-5 MAA members who would like to work together over the next month to devise a concept and create the piece on behalf of our organization.
About the project: "Under One Roof" brings together 30+ arts groups in the Greater Washington Area to create a fall exhibit at the Bender JCC's Goldman Gallery in Rockville. The theme is "Tikkun Olam," or "repair the world." Reflecting all that we have gone through over the past 18 months, works should engage in some way with this quote from the Talmud: “Do not be daunted by the enormity of the world’s grief … You are not obligated to complete the work, but neither are you free to abandon it.” – The Talmud.
Our submission: We have been invited to design and exhibit a 22x28” 2D art piece based on the quote above. The organizers have offered us studio space and supplies if needed, or the piece can be produced at one of our members' homes or studios. Our piece needs to be completed by August 23. Our plan: This community-based project will facilitate active collaboration with your fellow, talented MAA members during two sessions. The first session (either in person or virtually) will be to brainstorm and plan. The second session will be to come together to create the piece (either in an agreed upon space or the JCC studio). Dates and times will be mutually agreed upon.
