Join MAA for a visit to the contemporary Glenstone Museum in Potomac, where "everything is quietly spectacular, with curated views to the outdoors that present nature as visual haiku," says The Washington Post.

Glenstone is a place that seamlessly integrates art, architecture, and landscape into a serene and contemplative environment. Guided by the personal vision of its founders, Glenstone has assembled 1,300 post-World War II artworks of the highest quality that trace the greatest historical shifts in the way we experience and understand art of the 20th and 21st centuries. They include paintings, single-artist installations, video installations, sound installations, and both indoor and outdoor sculptures. The works are presented in a series of refined indoor and outdoor spaces designed to facilitate meaningful encounters. See what’s currently on view.

Following our self-guided visit, members are invited to have a casual lunch together at a nearby restaurant. Details TBC.

Due to expected high demand for this outing—tickets are hard to come by for this museum!—this field trip is for MAA members only; If space still remains on February 14, we will email registrants and invite you to register a guest, first-come, first-served.

Cost: $7 for members, $12 for non-members (if space remains on February 14).

What to expect: Glenstone Museum encompasses two buildings, several outdoor sculptures and nearly 300 acres of landscape. To fully experience Glenstone, visitors should be prepared to spend considerable time on foot, and comfortable walking shoes are recommended. The parking lot is a seven-minute walk to the pavilions. A few additional things to keep in mind:

  •  Photography is not permitted indoors; outdoor photography is allowed for personal use only.
  • Sketching is permitted with pencils only.
  • The entire property is smoke-free; the use of tobacco products and e-cigarettes/vaping is not permitted.

When to meet: Our tour begins at 10 am sharp. We recommend parking your car no later than 9:45 am to give yourself time to walk from the parking area to the main entrance (5-7 minutes). After the tour, members who wish to have lunch together should go to the café Vie de France at 10146 River Rd. in Potomac.

Getting there: Glenstone is at 12100 Glen Road in Potomac, Maryland. Parking is limited, and members are strongly encouraged to carpool or take a bus. The Montgomery County Ride On bus makes several daily stops at Glenstone on its 301 route.

Accessibility: Accessible parking is available directly in front of the Arrival Hall in the Sycamore parking grove. Cart service is available to bypass the quarter-mile meadow walk between the Arrival Hall and Entry Pavilion. The gallery is not serviced by the cart loop and is a 4-minute walk from the Entry Pavilion. There is limited seating in the museum. Wheelchairs and gallery chairs are available upon request on a first come, first served basis.
