All persons 18 years of age or older are welcome to join the Montgomery Art Association, Inc (MAA)— professional artists, amateurs, students, art lovers, non-artists and patrons. Members come from the entire metropolitan area. We offer opportunities to network with other artists and learn how others are solving art related challenges. MAA sponsors shows for both our members and non-members (member discounts provided). We publish a newsletter (electronic) to keep our members informed of places where they can show and sell their work as well as what we as an organization are up to!
New members are always welcome!
MCAA has monthly meetings on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at Plaza Arts in Rockville starting at 7 pm. Meetings are free to members and $5 for non-members. Members may bring one guest for free! Check our newsletter or web notice at: www.montgomeryart.org for details on exact location and meeting agenda. Meetings feature a presentation by a local artist or art instructor showing their approach, critiquing members work and/or demonstrations of techniques with various media. Sometimes a business relevant to our membership will demonstrate their product or services. Recent speakers have included Barbara Nuss (plein air painting) Javiér Beruff (muralist), David Lawton (pastel still life), David Daniels (mrwatercolor.com), Greg Staley (photographing artwork) and Conrad Bladley (Creator of the Handy Car as well as other Art Cars). Discover what others are doing and learn about new techniques or old techniques used in a new way.
MAA exhibits include the annual Friendship Heights Show in Chevy Chase Gallery and the Paint the Town Show at the Armory in Kensington over Labor Day weekend. The plein air event was added back to the Armory show in 2003. Juried shows include bin space for participating artists.
Income received from commissions from sales of paintings, membership dues, exhibit entry fees and workshops are used to finance the exhibits and awards, judges fees, guest speakers and other projects designed to promote the visual arts in our county. Company and individual donations are always welcome! Contributions are tax deductible!
